What Do You Do? – Prayer Nuggets – Pray for the Nation

What Do You Do?

What do you do when you are up against a wall with nowhere to go? Maybe there is a terrible doctor’s report, a loved one has strayed so far that you have lost all hope for their return, a major financial need goes unmet though you’ve prayed for God’s provision, or the world seems to be imploding all around you. When life looks like this to you, you may find yourself too overwhelmed or upset to pray as you usually would, though you know that’s the answer. What do you do?

Having found myself in a seemingly hopeless situation recently, all I could do was call out to my Daddy. Many times in prayer, I speak to the Lord as Father, but sometimes that seems too formal for me – those times when I just need to come to Him as His little child. In this case, when I was finally able to say anything, I told my Daddy how much I was hurting – not because He didn’t already know, but because I needed to be completely open and honest with Him. I told Him that the situation looked hopeless to me, and that I couldn’t pray in faith about it right now, for I knew I didn’t have the faith, and what is not of faith is sin (Romans 14:23). I cried, too. That didn’t make my heavenly Daddy at all uncomfortable, unlike an earthly daddy, for He always knows exactly what to do. He let me cry and be honest with Him, even though all my words were not “right” or “faith” words. Then, He let me sit in the silence of His Presence.

After a time, as my husband prayed beside me, the Holy Spirit began to stir my spirit man to be strengthened and rise up. By His Spirit, and in His strength, I began to declare that this situation would not get me off the course the Lord has prepared for me, and that I will continue to do that which He has given me to do, regardless of the trials. The Holy Spirit then led me to make some declarations of faith concerning the situation itself. In a very short time, my attitude and my words went from weakness and defeat to strength and victory – because my Daddy knew just what to do.

Psalm 91:1-31 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! 3 For [then] He will deliver you . . .”

My heavenly Daddy knew I needed to see that the real enemy was using natural circumstances against me to lure me out of my dwelling place, the one where I remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty. In that secret place, no foe of any sort can withstand God’s power, so the enemy is at work to get me out of my home! I fell for it temporarily, and not for the first time. When I didn’t think I knew what to do, however, when I just cried out to my Daddy, I actually moved back into the secret place, to my Refuge and my Fortress. In that place, He ministered to me; then He ministered through me in authority over the very situation I had seen as hopeless only minutes before.

What do you do when you find yourself unable to go on? Cry out to your Daddy, for He knows what to do!

Psalm 91:14-15 14 Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness — trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never]. 15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.” AMP
